DESCRIPTION: MEET IN PERSON:    Thursday, August 7, 2025, 5:30 p.m. –
  6:30 p.m. This meeting will be held in the Multipurpose Room at Franklin
  Elementary School, 1111 E. Mason Street. This will be an Open House forma
 t with no formal presentation.WHY THIS MEETING?    In February 2024, Cit
 y Council adopted the Lower Eastside Community Connectivity Active Transpo
 rtation Plan (Plan), which studied improving pedestrian and bicycle connec
 tivity between the Lower Eastside and destinations south of Highway 101 (U
 .S. 101). The Plan resulted in two proposed projects: 1) Highway 101 Pedes
 trian/Cyclist Bridge Overcrossing from the Eastside to the Waterfront and 
 2) the Lower Eastside Safety Enhancements Project. City Council directed s
 taff to seek grant funding for both projects. To date, the City was succes
 sful in obtaining grant funding for the Lower Eastside Safety Enhancements
  Project, which includes:•    Safe Routes to School safety enhancement
 s, including curb extensions and high visibility crosswalks at the interse
 ctions of Montecito and Voluntario Streets, Montecito and Soledad Streets,
  Quinientos and Voluntario Streets, Quinientos and Soledad Streets, and Ca
 rpinteria and Soledad Streets. Other intersections may be included based o
 n continued community engagement; •    Bike and pedestrian friendly s
 treet improvements, including curb extensions at Canada and Hutash Streets
 , Canada and Punta Gorda Streets, and Voluntario and Cacique Streets; •
     Salinas Street safety improvements, including a lighting corridor on
  Salinas Street from the five-point roundabout to the Highway 101 off ramp
  at Salinas Street, and curb extensions at Salinas and Clifton Streets, Sa
 linas and Carpinteria Streets, Salinas and Hutash Streets, and Salinas and
  Pitos Streets;•    Traffic calming improvements along Salinas Street;
  and •    Sidewalk infill on Alisos Street from Cacique Street to Pun
 ta Gorda Street.The purpose of the meeting is to review the above Project 
 scope in more detail before the Project’s design is finalized. Construct
 ion of the Project is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2027. The City w
