The City of Santa Barbara will be hosting two community meetings to provide the latest design updates for the Lower Eastside Safety Enhancements Project (Safety Enhancements Project) and the grant application for the Highway 101 Pedestrian/Cyclist Bridge Overcrossing, connecting the Eastside to the Waterfront.

These projects originated from the community-supported Lower Eastside Connectivity Active Transportation Plan, and the City is looking forward to sharing the progress.

At these meetings, the City will show the latest design of the Safety Enhancements Project, which includes:

  • Safe Routes to School improvements, including new curb extensions and high-visibility crosswalks at key intersections along Montecito, Voluntario, Soledad, Quinientos, and Carpinteria Streets.
  • Bike- and pedestrian-friendly upgrades, including curb extensions along Canada, Hutash, Punta Gorda, Voluntario, and Cacique Streets.
  • Salinas Street improvements, including new lighting from the five-point roundabout to the US 101 off-ramp, and new curb extensions at several intersections.

The meetings will also provide the latest information on the Highway 101 Pedestrian/Cyclist Bridge Overcrossing and the grant application the City plans to submit in June 2026.

Construction for the Safety Enhancements Project is anticipated to begin in summer 2027, and the City will continue to keep the community informed with updates.
